GENEALOGY
GEMS PODCAST
By Lisa L. Cooke
Thanks for subscribing
to the Genealogy Gems Podcast Newsletter. I hope Spring has been showering
you with new ancestors & cousins, and that your database overfloweth!
I’m excited to have
this additional method for us to chat about family history.
It’s great to have a way to share extra tidbits with you that come
along throughout the month that just couldn’t fit into an episode of the
podcast. I don’t’ want you to miss a thing!
A global conflict known in America as the French and Indian War, the Seven
Year War officially began when England declared war on France. However,
fighting between England and France had been going on in North America for
years.
In 1756 the British suffered a series of defeats against the French and
their broad network of Native American alliances.
In 1757, British Prime Minister William Pitt borrowed heavily to fund
an expanded war effort when he recognized the potential of imperial
expansion that would result from a victory against the French. Pitt financed
Prussia's struggle against France and her allies in Europe and reimbursed
the colonies for the raising of armies in North America.
The war ended with the signing of the treaties of Hubertusburg and Paris in
February 1763. In the Treaty of Paris, France lost all claims to Canada and
gave Louisiana to Spain, while Britain received Spanish Florida, Upper
Canada, and various French holdings overseas.
Have you recently
changed computers (Windows XP) and found yourself with important family
history bookmarks on both? With
a little effort, here’s how you can get them into a single bookmark list by
using the Export/Import tool in your browser.
1)
Open Windows
Internet Explorer
2)
Click the ADD TO
FAVORITES (Star & plus sign) button on your tool bar
3)
Select IMPORT &
EXPORT in the drop-down list that appears
4)
Select EXPORT
FAVORITES and follow the prompts to create a file holding a list of the
favorites you want to move
5)
Copy the file onto
a disk or portable flash drive
6)
Take the exported
file to the other machine & use the IMPORT side of the tool to bring the
list into that browser.
Ancestry Magazine
http://www.ancestrymagazine.com
has finally launched a companion website for their magazine.
It’s just getting started, but I have high hopes for great content in
the future.
New on the Tube:
I’m very happy to announce that Roots Television
www.rootstelevision.com has
selected my videos
A Nurse In Training Part 1 & Part 2 for inclusion on the Roots Tube
Channel. You may remember these
two videos from Episode 4 of the
Genealogy Gems Podcast.
Roots Television is a terrific site devoted to genealogy shows & videos.
Volunteers Needed:
to evaluate the development of a new version of the FamilySearch.org
website.
FamilySearch.org is a non-profit website sponsored by the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
They have been actively gathering and preserving genealogical records
worldwide for over 100 years.
Because the church’s family history efforts are funded by charitable
donations, it offers its resources for free to anyone interested in finding
their family’s roots. If you
are 18 years or older, willing to
volunteer an hour of time to help evaluate the new website, and (preferably)
fairly new to family history work, go to
