THE KID
This month’s movie is a true classic that stands the test of
time. “The Kid” starring
Charlie Chaplin and child actor Jackie Coogan is funny, witty, and pulls
at the heart strings. While
many films from the silent era can seem corny or over dramatic, The Kid
still seems fresh. It’s one
of those movies that if you could tie your kids or grandkids down to the
sofa long enough to get them to watch, it would quickly win them over.
It’s getting them to sit down and watch that’s the hard part!
In 1921 Charlie Chaplin was inspired by the recent tragic
loss of his own child to make a movie that truly celebrated the bond
between parent and child – whether that child was biological, or
adopted. And the musical
score that you hear on the DVD ideally suits the humorous and tragic
events he portrays.
